This unique place was first chronicled in history in 1247, when the village was owned by the knight Dzierżko, then Palatine of Wrocław. The village was given the name Przerzeczyn (in the documentation we find the names Prerechim, Prerechino, Prerecim), which primarily referred to its location by the river, today known to us as the Ślęza River.
History of the place
The history of the village is primarily the history of two families: the von Pfeils, who consider the aforementioned Dzierżek to be the progenitor of their family, and the von Niemitz family. As early as the 15th century, Przerzeczyn was divided into two parts, each with its own owner: the von Pfeil family in Przerzeczyn Dolny (Nieder Dirsdorf) and the von Niemitz family in Przerzeczyn Górny (Ober Dirsdorf). Soon after, the entire estate belonged to the von Pfeil family. There were palaces in both parts, and one of them, once the pride of Przerzeczyn Dolny, survives to this day. Both estates also had manors, some of whose buildings survive to the present day, as well as numerous farms, and Przerzeczyn Górny also had both a school and an Evangelical church with a rectory.
The period of German colonization was not only a time of development for the village; it also saw its name changed to Diersdorf, and then to Bad Dirsdorf, which remained in use until 1945. The latter name has a special connection with a unique event, as it marks the beginning of the history of the smallest health resort in Poland, a history that dates back to 1802 and begins with water and a single gemstone – chrysoprase. The unique combination of the spring water and chrysoprase creates mineral and healing waters of an inimitable composition, enriched with sulfur and radon.
It was in 1802 that a sulfide water spring was enclosed and a small wooden house for curative baths was built, known today as Jaś. In 1825, the Spa House, currently known as Acacia, was constructed in Przerzeczyn. Fifteen years later, the facility was expanded and additional sanatorium buildings were erected, such as Forsycja, Buk, and Cis.
After the end of World War II, all of Przerzeczyn's assets were taken over by the Polish state, and in 1946, the village was renamed Przerzeczyn-Zdrój. The estate in Przerzeczyn Dolny was handed over to the State Breeding Center (POHZ), while in Przerzeczyn Górny, the State Health Resort Przerzeczyn-Zdrój began operating; it included sanatoriums, health resort facilities, and a natural medicine facility. This resort operated until 2015.
Since 2021, the former health resort and areas previously belonging to the POHZ have been in the hands of a single private owner, leading to the execution of a coherent and well-rounded concept for the development of the village. This will contribute to the transformation of the historic spa village of Przerzeczyn-Zdrój into an international SPA resort, an important point on the tourist map of Poland and the world.
